Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Sandwiches

These are wonderful when you have a house full of people.  They are a crowd pleaser and your house will smell great making everyone excited for dinner.  Once you get it cooking in the morning, you just need to add the bbq sauce later and serve.  A favorite at the Battista cabin!

7 hours in crock pot




4# organic chicken breast (skinless and boneless)

¾ cup water

3T. Worcestershire sauce (look for a brand without HFCS or MSG; Annie’s works)

3 T vinegar (apple cider or red wine)

1tsp cumin

28oz bottled BBQ sauce (look for a brand without HFCS or MSG; Annie’s works)


In a slow cooker, combine the chicken, water, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and cumin.  Cook on low for 6 hours. Drain juices (reserve some for later use). Using 2 forks, pull apart the chicken breasts in the slow cooker until shredded.  Add the BBQ sauce.  Stir thoroughly.  Add some of the reserved water if desired or if they seem dry.   Cook on low for 1 more hour.  Serve on whole grain buns.  Enjoy!


You can cut this recipe in half if you don't have a crowd or you dont' want great leftover!
